Skolnik Named Recipient of National Mentoring Award

January 10, East Meadow, NY – Fred Skolnik, a partner in the Corporate/Securities Law Practice of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP will be honored by MENTOR with the 2019 Excellence in Mentoring Award on January 30th at the Excellence in Mentoring Awards Dinner which will be held at the Library of Congress. This recognition is given to an employee from a company listed on the National Corporate Honor Roll  who both volunteers his time as a youth mentor and mobilizes others to engage in the mentoring movement. For the first time, the recognition will be awarded across four categories: Corporate Leadership (Fred Skolnik); Impactful Philanthropy (Genentech),; Public Elevation (Mayor Rahm Emanuel); and Lifetime Achievement (Kenneth Ward, Executive Director of College Bound, Inc.).

Mr. Skolnik’s practice relates primarily to the representation of public and private companies in connection with equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, securities transactions, and general corporate and business matters. He is a frequent speaker on topics related to corporate and securities law, He has served the Nassau County Bar Association as Chair of both the Corporation Law Committee and the Securities Law Committee. Mr. Skolnik is a member of the Board of Directors of MENTOR New York, which creates and supports mentoring programs throughout New York State. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Farmingdale College Foundation, which provides financial assistance, including scholarships, for Farmingdale State College programs and projects not funded by the New York State budget. He is a co-founder and the administrator of LIKE (Lawyers Involved in Kids’ Education), a program that establishes mentoring relationships between attorneys and potentially “at-risk” elementary school students and seeks to develop analytical and vocabulary skills, confidence and self-esteem in the mentees through word and number games.

The Excellence in Mentoring awardees and their mentees are real-life examples of the power of mentoring relationships to support, inspire, and engage young people.

The award ceremony is an invitation-only convening of leaders and supporters of the youth mentoring field and part of the National Mentoring Summit, the signature event for the mentoring field, convening more than 1,000 experts, practitioners, advocates, and philanthropic partners to advance mentoring nationwide. The Summit closes out National Mentoring Month, celebrated each January to focus national attention on the value of mentoring to bring people together and build meaningful, lasting relationships for young people and adults alike.
